The Time Attack

Commander John Koenig steered Eagle One and saw on 
the monitor Carters face, which came to him from the 
Moonbase. Suddenly the outlines of Carters face grew 
distorted and dissolved. The screen became grey.
John Koenig jerked. "Tony, damn, what was that?"
Tony Verdeschi in the copilot seat of the Eagle hammered 
hectically on the buttons and levers of his instrument 
panel. "Commander - I believe, the Moon exploded!"
John Koenig switched on the camera which was aimed at 
the Alphan homeland.
The external monitor showed only the infinite emptiness 
of the universe.
The moon had disappeared!
